Victor Sima founded Sima Electronique in Québec in 1980, and the company he started has stayed independent through four and a half decades — privately held, Canadian, and still building in Boucherville. The MOON name arrived in 1997 as the product line, and it is now how most people know the company.
The engineering philosophy is unusually legible in the product range. MOON develops its technologies at the top and then pushes them down. The distortion-cancelling output topology and the hybrid power supply that define the North Collection both now appear in the 371, the entry point to the Compass Collection introduced in 2025. That is the opposite of the usual arrangement, where the affordable model is the expensive one with things removed.
North runs from the 641 integrated up through the 681, 761, 861, and 791 to the 891 network player and preamplifier at its keystone — dual-mono throughout, with each stage independently powered, MOON's own analog volume control, and the MiND 2 streaming platform built in-house rather than bought in. Alongside the collections sit the 888 power amplifier, the 850P preamplifier, the 650D CD player, the 110LP through 810LP phono stages, and the Voice 22, MOON's first loudspeaker.
Everything is hand-assembled in Boucherville. Registered with an authorised dealer within thirty days of purchase, MOON products carry warranty coverage extending up to ten years.
