The New Reference is the flagship of the Thorens range, built as the company's statement of what a belt-drive turntable can achieve. A hydrodynamic platter bearing is paired with a three-phase synchronous motor and quartz-controlled speed regulation with a double oscillator, specified to hold 33.3333 rpm within 3 ppm over twenty years. Active vibration isolation with piezoelectric sensors follows the sky-hook damping principle, and the deck accepts up to three tonearm bases for 9, 10 and 12-inch arms.
