The MC451 brings McIntosh's Hybrid Drive bi-amping concept into a conventional chassis size: a 150-watt vacuum tube amplifier powered by four KT88 output tubes joined to a 300-watt Quad Balanced solid state amplifier on one chassis. The tube section drives a speaker's midranges and tweeters while the solid state section powers the woofers, each delivering full output into 2, 4 or 8 ohms. It was named The Absolute Sound's 2023 Vacuum Tube Amplifier of the Year.
