The MCD12000 is best understood as a reference-level DAC that includes a reference-level disc player. Two ESS SABRE PRO ES9038PRO 32-bit 8-channel DACs are used, one per audio channel, and McIntosh's Hybrid Drive technology provides both solid state and vacuum tube balanced and unbalanced analog outputs. Seven digital inputs, including USB, AES/EBU and MCT, make it the digital hub of a flagship system.
